A Dough done Differently

As soon as the weather broke it seems all anyone can talk about (regarding food) is what food they are grilling. Admittedly it was a drawn out cool spring, and we do have a reasonably short summer season; so it’s fair to be excited. From burgers to steak, grilled veggies or even pizza we are getting inventive and finding new uses for the old backyard barbecue.

When putting together a pizza you have to start with the dough. There are many recipes and styles of dough out there. Where a basic pizza dough consists of nothing more than water, flour and yeast there are many more additions and options to choose from. Thin crust, dense crust, airy or even spiced crusts are possible when you are starting from scratch. Today’s version is a dense yet thin crust that will not burn…unless that is your intention.

Ingredients:

1 cup flour

¼ cup olive oil

½ cup warm water

2 tsp. yeast

1 tsp. sugar

Directions:

Dissolve sugar into warm water and add yeast, let stand for five minutes.

In a separate bowl incorporate flour, olive oil, water and yeast mixture.

Stir until combined.

Knead dough until thoroughly combined and uniform.

Let dough rest for at least half an hour.
