Simplicity in Snacking

Simplicity is key when it comes to snacks and light meals in the warmer months. Nobody wants to spend an hour over a hot stove, or even twenty minutes, preparing for a ten minute event. Avocados, along with their healthy fats, allow for an easy addition to many dishes and occasionally can stand alone as a snack with a touch of preparation.

Most of us are well aware of the health benefits of avocados. These days they are used in everything from chip dips to a sandwich condiment and they can even be seen in some facial scrubs! So what is it about the avocado that makes it such a versatile product? Simply put, good fats. For years we have been told to tighten up and cut away the fat in our diet, but they were bad fats they were warning us about such as saturated fats and trans fats. Avocados and other foodstuffs such as fish and nuts have good fats that include omega 3 fatty acids.

A super simple light avocado lunch or snack is what is on the menu today.

1 Avocado, Quartered and Pitted

25ml. Balsamic Vinegar

Quarter and pit one avocado, place the avocado quarters on a plate or serving tray, and drizzle with balsamic vinegar.

Thats it; serve and enjoy!

An easy way to enjoy whatever activities you have planned is to keep meals and snacks simple, and this recipe is deceivingly delicious. From time to time we all hear the best dishes are the simplest ones, and the reason for it is food science at its’ core. Certain foods paired together just work with our taste buds. Peanut butter and jelly, rosemary and lamb, bacon and eggs, are all part of what are known as classic pairings due to their ability to simply go together.

At some point this week dig into an avocado with balsamic vinegar, you will not be disappointed! A healthy snack to get you through the afternoon lull at work, an easy after school snack for the kids, or a healthy alternative to those cookies after supper, whatever your reasons for trying this out, there is a reason for nearly everyone.
