The Harvest Highball

From our earliest years it is our fondest memories that stay with us the most. When you really think about it your memories are merely moments in time that for whatever reason stuck with you. And what is it that brings back a long forgotten memory; the smell of hardwood burning in a campfire, the sight of a plastic bag blowing in the wind, maybe the taste of a perfectly seasoned steak seared to a sensational medium rare. Our memories are not necessarily logical but revisiting them can often come in a split-second.

The Harvest Highball, a drink I stumbled upon while searching the depths of the internet, sparked my interest as it encapsulates so many of the flavours I associate with summer.

Ingredients:

1.5 oz. Lemon Vodka

.5 oz. lime juice

.5 oz. simple syrup

2 oz. ginger beer

Directions:

1) Combine vodka, lime juice and simple syrup in a shaker tin with ice. Shake vigorously until thoroughly chilled.

2) Strain ingredients into a highball glass filled with ice and then top off with two ounces of ginger beer.

3) Serve with a lemon twist garnish.

While it is available year round, citrus is most associated with summer months for the majority of us. Combined with simple syrup and we have all the flavours of childhood lemonade. Top that with a tropical spicy note of ginger beer and a splash of hidden heat when it comes to vodka and this cocktail has all the the ingredients necessary to give this summer a proper sendoff.
