Simplicities of Tomato Sauce

Be it a parent worried about their “growing baby” or the local fast food establishments in the area, everyone has the students on their minds. As we collectively head back to class, those of us with a culinary concern always turn our thoughts to the nutritional wellbeing of those who are striking out on their own, college students.

The questions start there, but can sometimes turn into questioning if they even know how to cook: scary yes, but heading off to college without the ability to brew a pot of coffee or boil water is a reality for some.

The value of knowing how to cook allows the ability to infuse any dish with additional nutrition at a moments notice. Adding vegetables to a bowl of ramen noodles, including beans to your chilli, or even introducing certain spices can spike the nutritional value of some dishes.

So in keeping it simple, a basic basil pasta sauce has been put under the microscope today. Where fresh tomatoes are ideal; canned or canned and diced tomatoes can be used as an economic option. At the local bulk store $0.30 goes a long way where flavour is concerned; that is all the basil used in this recipe cost! Additionally a pot, a stove and a spoon are all that is required to pump out this pasta prerequisite.

Monetarily speaking, cooking means saving. This is fact, assuming you are conscious of what you are cooking. For the price of a plate of fries at your favourite restaurant you can most likely buy a ten-pound bag of potatoes. Those savings can be applied directly to whatever you choose to spend your money on; movies, video games, social indulgences or clothing, whatever you choose.
